OM in the Wild – a (disco, cowgirl) Barbie party at Clancy’s
The assignment:
a pink birthday explosion
The goal:
feature as many shades of pink as possible
Tricks to pulling off the look:
1. Use equal parts disco, cowgirl, and Barbie pink
2. Keep it cool
3. Choose one accent color to soften the look
Using equal parts
The birthday girl had one request- pink – and just loved the idea of including disco balls and cowgirl hats to keep it fun. I wanted to keep the themes evenly dispersed so disco ball drink stirrers meant mini cowgirl hats to scatter on the table, and wearable cowgirl hats for guests meant pink disco balls in the floral arrangements. Once “disco” and “cowgirl” had equal representation, the rest was just PINK. Many different shades and textures are the key to this look – sequins, feathers, confetti, neon, flowers, balloons, and even the guests were in pink. Each of these elements (set against the dark walls) added a different layer to the look and provided visual interest that was impossible to ignore.
Keeping it cool
I was very strategic in keeping the temperature of this look cool, which meant that silver dominated as the metal of choice. To cool down a fully pink look, I needed the silver at several different heights – on the table, as the base of the florals, and incorporated into the balloons. This also meant accenting with rose gold (a mix of pink and silver) and avoiding regular gold completely. Add in the cool hue of the neon ice cubes and hearts and the table was ready for a party!
Softening the look
I wanted to balance out the harshness of some of the hot pinks, so I decided to soften the look with shades of orange (mostly peach) and light pinks. The softer colors of the table runner, feathers, macarons, the cake icing, and some of the wearables kept the look from being too uniform while retaining its overall pinkness. The tall florals also added a touch of elegance to soften things a bit. This look was an absolute blast to create and all eighteen disco, cowgirl Barbies (guests) partied!
