OM in the Wild – she said yes (in pink & gold) at New Orleans Country Club
The assignment:
an elegant tablescape to celebrate the big news
The goal:
use as many shades of pink as possible
Tricks to pulling off the look:
1. Variety, variety, variety
2. Personal touches
3. Selectively using gold
Keeping it varied
The host requested many shades of pink (which I loved). I knew that I wanted to use as many pinks as possible while staying within the parameters I set for myself (no hot pink and nothing so light it looked white). The host requested a wild, loose look, so I took the opportunity to use many types of greenery (and a few sticks and cat tails) as well. The sheer size of the runner (10 feet!) provided ample opportunity to vary it up, and the finished product takes the visual interest to the next level. Everywhere you look is something new and no two flower sequences are the same. To top it off, fairy lights were woven into the arrangement to add that extra-special touch!
Making it personal
A guest automatically feels special when they see their name on anything, and there were several opportunities for personalization that added an extra level of detail to the entire evening. Hand-written name cards, gourmet chocolates specifically selected for the occasion with a personalized note inside the box, and personalized menus and napkins created exclusively for the dinner made each person feel included in the celebration of the newly engaged couple.
Adding the gold
The host requested touches of gold, and I knew the floral runner was not the place to add it. The place settings became the obvious choice and I wanted something that would stand out even as the meal was being enjoyed. The ruffled gold chargers kept gold in sight at all times and complimented the writing on the name cards, chocolate boxes, and the vases and stripes on the outdoor tables where cocktails were enjoyed before dinner.
