OM in the Wild – welcome, baby girl (with bows)
The assignment:
a bow-filled baby shower
The goal:
keep it light while working with the brown tones
Tricks to pulling off the look:
1. Use rose gold as the accent metal
2. Incorporate both darker and lighter shades of pink
3. Bows, bows everywhere
Using rose gold
The host’s home features intricate silver and gold details in addition to deep wood tones and various shades of brown. Instead of emphasizing the already present silver and gold, rose gold was added to the mix to tie everything together. This worked well because the rose (almost copper) balloon accents added a touch of pink while bringing together the browns of the walls and wooden accents.
Using dark and light pinks
Because of the deeper tones present, it was important to use dark pinks (to work with the surroundings) and light pinks (to keep the baby shower feeling light and elegant). This was accomplished with both the balloon clusters and flower arrangements. The many shades of pink kept the look festive and visually interesting.
Bows everywhere
The host requested several bows and this was fun to execute. Incorporating bows into the floral arrangements and balloon clusters was a first for me. I just adored the added texture of using extra-wide faux dupioni silk ribbon to create the accent bows for the flowers, balloon clusters, and mantle. The large grosgrain ribbon tied around the cookies added a fun touch as well. No single element of this design was overpowering, instead, several small detailed elements came together to create a cohesive look fit to welcome a new baby girl.
